Favorite Recipe

A favorite pie enjoyed by all that have had the pleasure of tasting it is Maple Cream Pie. Medium or Dark Amber Syrup is used in making this delicious pie. It's sure to be a hit wherever and whenever it is served. This has become a family favorite!

Ingredients

  • 1 prepared (prebaked) pie crust
  • 1 3/4 c. milk, divided
  • 1/4 c. cornstarch
  • 3/4 c. + 2 T. maple syrup, divided (dark syrup works best)
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 2 egg yolks, beaten slightly
  • 2 T. margarine or butter
  • 2 c. whipped topping, divided
  • Chopped walnuts, pecan or toasted almonds (opt.)

Directions

Blend 1/4 cup milk and 1/4 cup cornstarch in saucepan. Add remaining milk, 3/4 cup maple syrup, and salt. Cook, stirring constantly until mixture comes to a boil. Remove from heat and stir a small amount of hot mixture into the egg yolks. Return egg mixture to syrup mixture in saucepan and cook until thick and bubbly. Remove from heat and add margarine, continuing to stir until melted. Cool thoroughly, stirring frequently while cooling. Fold in 1 cup whipped topping until mixed, then pour filling into pie shell. Stir remaining 2 tablespoons maple syrup into remaining topping and cover top of pie. Sprinkle top of pie with nuts, if desired. Chill before serving.
